Data Engineer Developer Intern

Role Overview

HelpSeeker is searching for a talented, full-time (minimum 30 hours/week) Data Engineer Developer Intern to build our growing data and data pipeline architecture. They will be working closely with our data science and development teams to optimize data flow and collection for cross-functional teams. The data engineer will support our data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure efficient data delivery architecture is delivered consistently across projects. They need to be comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.  As a team player, they will bring their keen eye for detail and problem-solving skills to the Innovation team. Their experience in Agile frameworks and building data architecture will make them the ideal Data Engineer. 

This is a remote position – work from home anywhere in Canada

The internship commences October 1, 2021 and ends March 31, 2022. There may be an opportunity to transition to a permanent position once the internship has been completed.

This position is being hired through the Digital Skills for Youth (DS4Y) Program

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain databases from a variety of sources (public/private, internal/external) and generate optimal data pipeline architecture.
  • Work with the data science team and stakeholders to assemble a variety of databases and work to apply the ontology the team is creating.
  • Work with subject matter experts to organize and curate data appropriately for the company’s needs.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, ensuring scalability, optimizing data access and organization, etc.
  • Build and support the infrastructure required for ETL processes from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and the Azure platform.
  • Work with stakeholders including to assist with data-related technical issues and data needs.
  • Work with internal teams to ensure maximum usability and organization of our data assets.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of Bsc degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Information Systems or another software development field. 
  • Experience with server-side frameworks and DevOps technologies (CI CD pipelines, BitBucket).
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure (e.g. Azure Functions, Azure Data Factory, Databricks, etc), experience with scripting languages: Python etc.
  • Experience with supporting/building backend security architecture
  • Advanced web scraping knowledge and experience working with relational databases and non relational databases (Mongo DB, Table API, Cassandra, Gremlin).
  • Background and analytics skills necessary to work with unstructured datasets.
  • Experience developing a variety of SOAP and REST APIs using Azure Functions.
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets. Experience with linkages between datasets is vital.
  • Advanced project management and organizational skills.
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
